Exulting in the Word of God
"Be content with what you have, for God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. So say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid." — Hebrews 13:5–6
On Tuesday June 23 1925 Reverend Maxwell J. Williams, priest-in-charge of St Aiden's, obtained the permission of Bishop Stearly to canvas the City of Hackensack in order to ascertain as to the advisability of organizing a congregation of colored Episcopalians.
The canvas was made during the month of July and proved so satisfactory that it was decided to organize a mission. On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, 1925 the mission opened its doors for its first service at 5:30. It was named St. Cyprian's Mission by its congregation.
The lots were purchased on June 1, 1926, ground was broken on June 13, and on July 1, 1926 the cornerstone was laid by Reverend Edwin Lires, Bishop of the Diocese.

Our Sunday services follow the rich liturgical tradition of the Episcopal Church, centered on the Holy Eucharist. Whether you are a lifelong Episcopalian or visiting for the very first time, you will find a warm and genuine welcome.
Services include scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, a homily, and the celebration of Holy Communion. We worship from the Book of Common Prayer and sing from the Hymnal 1982.
Children are welcome at all services. Please speak with an usher if you need assistance.

St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church is a community of believers committed to the unapologetic proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are grounded in the Anglican tradition — the Book of Common Prayer, the historic Creeds, and the authority of Holy Scripture.
We strive to be a welcoming, Spirit-filled community where all are invited to encounter the living God, grow as disciples, and serve our neighbors with the love of Christ.
